June 4, July 9, 16, and 23, 12-3pm
Have you ever felt lost in your own writing? Your writing dreams are myriad and arrive like a flood around you. Lines come for a poem, and the spark leaves just as fleetingly. When you do manage to finish the first draft, do you wonder, what is this creation now and how do I refine it and where will it live beyond this page (and should it)? This workshop is for the emerging writer, which can be the person who is just learning about revision, setting up a regular writing practice, or learning how to send out work for possible publication. In addition, all of us writers in this community – and we will work hard to establish a loving and communally accountable community – will create a vision for who we would like to be as writers whether that’s in getting the words on the page, publishing, doing readings, winning prizes, teaching, or more. In essence, together we will be envisioning and enacting a collective and individual manifestation of writing into our own power.
Each day of the workshop will be guided by a short text sample (from fiction, nonfiction, and poetry). These prompts will not be workshopped but can be shared by co-learners at the start of the synchronous workshops. This is intended to inspire continued development in our craft. All classes will be recorded. Participants are expected to attend all classes.
